It’s Times Like These That Highlight the Benefits of Boating

What a difference a few months makes. In mid-March, many of the nation’s outdoor recreational activities were shut down due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus. Exploring the Upper Keys

    POSTED 6/11/2019

The Yamaha Team Spends Some Time in Florida’s Northernmost Keys on the New Regulator® 26 Crossover

The Fla. Keys are famous for many things, from pirates and sunken Spanish treasure galleons to Ernest Hemingway’s Key West home with its pride of polydactyl cats. But for anglers, it’s best known for fishing. While the middle and southernmost Keys garner most of the good press, the upper Keys offer some of the most diverse fishing opportunities in the entire island chain. The winter sailfish season provides the opportunity to catch a billfish a scant few miles off shore, while the ocean reefs are home to tarpon, jacks, blackfin tuna and a variety of grouper and snapper species. On the other side, the backcountry of Florida Bay is a shallow water playground where bonefish and permit hunt the skinny water, and a variety of mackerel, snapper, grouper, jacks and ladyfish are found in the slightly deeper holes.

Yamaha Pro Bill Lowen Made 100-Mile Runs to Find Right Conditions at Winyah Bay Event

Bill Lowen had never made a 100-mile run one-way just to find the right fishing conditions, but he did it three successive days during the recent Bassmaster® Elite tournament at South Carolina’s Winyah Bay, and it nearly paid off with a victory. In three days of competition, the Yamaha Pro put more than 600 miles on his boat, the equivalent of driving a car from Atlanta to Miami.

How to Winterize Your Yamaha Four-Cylinder Outboard

    POSTED 10/23/2018

UPDATE 10/15/19: We updated this post to make your experience better. The facts are the same, but we provided easy-to-read steps and links to a video and to the products you will need.

Yamaha offers a popular line of four-cylinder four-stroke outboards that are used in a wide range of installations in both fresh and saltwater all over the world. From pontoons to center consoles, bass boats to work skiffs and even water taxis, they are great performers and real workhorses. The most popular are the 90, 115 and 150-horsepower models and many are used in climates where they are taken out of service for the winter months.

While we always recommend having your engine winterized by a certified Yamaha dealer if possible, these engines are designed to make the process easy enough for owners to do the job themselves. We asked Pete Reils, a certified Yamaha technician at Garden State Marina in Pt. Pleasant, New Jersey to provide a step-by-step tutorial on how you can winterize your engine(s).

    Coast Guard Safety Inspections

    POSTED 8/15/2013

Is your boat equipped and ready to pass one? It should be.

It was a hot Saturday afternoon in July, and the river was busy with boats returning from the ocean waiting to pass through a narrow railroad bridge a quarter mile from the inlet. There were recreational boats of all sizes—large sportfish and cruiser types, personal watercraft and outboards of very description. While waiting to make the passage, a familiar orange vessel appeared off our starboard side with its blue revolving light shining brightly. It was a Coast Guard RIB, short for rigid inflatable boat, and a guardsman was standing on the bow motioning to our boat.
